Kingfisher Cottages

The Malachite Kingfisher Cottage

The Malachite Kingfisher cottage is a renovated 100+ year-old stone self-catering cottage with a whole lot of charm and character, adjacent to the main farmhouse on Two Dam Sustainable.

Here you can truly unwind in a tranquil environment, far from the everyday bustle. Enjoy the tranquility of a camp fire and a glorious night sky and listen out for the distinctive rasping call of the leopard. Ideal for a couple wanting to get away for a romantic break or even a family, as there are two small sleeper couches in the lounge for the young ones (additional rates apply). The fully equipped kitchen has a two-plate gas stove, bar fridge and tea and coffee available. All linen, towels and bedding is provided. In line with our ethos to minimize our ecological impact, we supply biodegradable guest amenities and dish-washing liquid.

Opening 13th December 2019: 3 new Kingfisher Cottages

To check availability please visit our Booking page.

We are very excited to announce the opening of our 3 new Kingfisher Cottages built using natural building techniques and materials. The cottages, are in the heart of the picturesque Montagu mountains, about 1 km down the valley from the main farm house and promise to offer the ideal offgrid eco-retreat perfect for nature lovers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Each cottage has two bedrooms, accommodating four people. They have an open plan lounge and kitchen with a cosy fire place and an outside braai and dining area in all cottages.

The cottages have a communal boma and eco pool which offers the perfect
shared space for social gatherings, yoga retreats and workshops.

What makes these cottages so sustainable?

  • They are made almost entirely out of mudbricks with a natural stone stemwall. Special care was taken to avoid/reduce more conventional building materials that have a larger environmental impact.
  • A large component of the building materials come from the farm itself and most others have been locally sourced.
  • The cottages are off-grid, powered by solar-energy.
  • Each unit has a composting toilet.
  • All units are equipped with energy efficient lights and appliances, as well as water savings fittings and fixtures.
  • For more information on the farm's general sustainability initiatives you can read our sustainability page.
